Our Commitment

GOSH's Sustainability Commitment

GOSH is committed to providing world-class healthcare whilst being environmentally responsible. We are making improvements to our buildings and processes, and can achieve our ambitious goals with the help of all of our staff and partners.

Our Environmental Targets are:
· 34% reduction in our Carbon Footprint by 2020 against our 2012/13 baseline
· 35% reduction in our water consumption by the end of 2015/16 from our 2012/13 baseline
· 30% reduction in our general waste production by the end of 2014/15 against our 2012/13 baseline.

Why?

We care about the health of children around the world, and must reduce our environmental impact as much as possible. We are funded by the UK taxpayer and by charitable donations so it’s our responsibility to run our estate as efficiently as possible. As a trusted brand we can set an example that can be followed across the NHS and the UK Public Sector.

How?

We have consulted with our staff and created our Sustainability Management Plan on the back of their ideas, insights and concerns. This plan represents a route map for us to deliver significant improvements in energy and water use and waste generation. Working together, we can ensure that GOSH becomes a leader in sustainability while we create the best surroundings and service for our patients and staff.

The health and wellbeing of the younger generation guides everything we do at GOSH. That's why we care about our environmental impact. We pledge to design our new buildings to the highest possible environmental standards. We will use sustainably sourced materials, minimise the carbon impact of construction and prioritise energy efficiency. We will involve our young patients to incorporate building design features that inspire us all to think about the environment and promote sustainable behaviour in our day-to-day lives
